Hotel Vltava is a classic mountain structure located in the beautiful village of Strážné, high up in the Krkonoše (Giant) Mountains. This is the real traditional style of Czech mountain hospitality-little frills, hearty and outdoor based. The main nucleus for families with small children and schools coming on ski trips because of the gentle slopes immediately nearby which it serves as a hub cannot be more different from a modern luxury wellness resort; rather it feels like some warm unpretentious base camp at communal mountain recreation that offers an inside throwback to that era. People come here not only to disconnect and breathe some fresh alpine air but also because since neighboring Špindlerův Mlýn developed into an expensive resort this place still offers great value.

Ups & Downs - Hotel Vltava

  • The place is perfect for families. Right in the middle of the village, barely a minute's walk to the ski lifts and slopes where children can practice.
  • Wellness area! Yes, whirlpool and sauna. That's what a cross-country skier from cold trails desires most. Basic? Yes. But amenity enough after a day out in chilling winds.
  • The restaurant downstairs serves huge portions of some slightly modern takes on classic Czech dishes-say, goulash and dumplings-perhaps exactly what is needed to replace all the calories burned by an active traveler.
  • There's a playroom for kids. Which makes it one of the places where parents can have a relatively stress-free evening bringing their children to entertain them in the late hours.
  • Nice view from south-facing rooms over hills and forests rolling at the foot of Krkonoše.
  • × The carpets, furniture and paneling belong to the 1990s or early 2000s.
  • × Bathrooms are functional but small and old fashioned with shower curtains in quite a few them plus minimal shelf space for toiletries.
  • × There is no elevator in the building. Guests will have to carry their luggage and ski gear up the stairs to their rooms.

  • Service Quality Friendly and domestic. The staff are usually locals who are laid-back and helpful with trail advice.
  • Location Convenience Excellent for beginners, right in the heart of this friendly family ski area-without any crowds.
  • Area Throwback and communal, it feels like the real mountain hut (chata) experience- with a shared lively atmosphere.
  • Clean & Tidy Mostly Clean. Old but well kept.[Carpets can hold onto dust.]
  • Breakfast Hearty and filling. The half board options are dependable Czech classics.Complain about breakfast being repetitive.
